We keep chickens, presently six Red Rock hens that provide fresh eggs daily, and we have seasonal visitors to the Inn. Hummingbirds usually arrive in the middle of March and stay for the summer, but some can still be seen as late as December. The same pair of Mallard ducks have been with us for several years, returning to start a new family every year around the beginning of March. This year Mrs. Duck brought fifteen ducklings to the pond.

In the Neighbourhood

Nature trails at the end of Windecker Drive provide exploration opportunities in the 160 acre Elder Cedar Nature Preserve. Old logging roads and well worn trails meander throughout the woods. See the Google map on the Where We Are page for an aerial view. Many visitors come for cycling tours and kayaking. Kayak rentals are available at Silva Bay which is just 4.5 km down the road. Circumnavigating the island is approximately 30 km or a trip to the village and back is 14 km. The entire island is a rural setting.
